What we do

YP is a specialist in developing young people potential, specifically young people who struggle in main stream education. Set up in 2016, YP Potential CIC is a division of The Apprentice Academy. Working with partners, we support projects designed to build young people’s self-esteem, increase aspiration and tackle social issues.

Our primary mission is to support young people who face social or economic barriers.  As well as sponsoring programmes ourselves, we also work with partners to co-fund projects through sister programme One Mile Project.

‘46% of young people leave education with less than 5 Grade C GCSE’s including Maths and English.’

This creates barriers to many pathways from apprenticeships to further education. The result is the UK is missing out on a vast amount of talent due to issues such as poverty, exclusion from school and negative peer influences. For a young person to succeed, they first need hope; sadly for many young people in economically challenged communities this is missing. Over their life time, a disengaged young person who becomes unemployed can result in negative economic impact of £250,000 to £1,000,000. The answer isn’t about creating victims, it is about creating pathways.

Within communities we have a massive amount of untapped talent. The challenge is talent is normally associated to academic ability.
